Kara-Party.com Help
Kara-Party.com is a karaoke hosting application allowing you to throw your own party or join a party you are attending.
Starting a Party
If you will be starting your own party then you must sign in as a karaoke host. This requires you to have an account. If you do not have an account yet, you can create one now.
The green button on the right is for starting a new party.
You will proceed to another page that lets you choose your preferred sign in method. Click on one of those buttons to proceed.
Log into your account as you normally would.
You will be redirected back to the kara-party application.
From here you can start a new party. Click on the New Party button. You can also name your party if you like.
Notice the Party Code that is on the right side of the page. This is used to allow other devices (such as computers and phones) to join and queue songs to sing.
By clicking on the Queue Some Songs! button, a new tab will be opened allowing you to search for songs to sing.
Finally, going back to the main karaoke host tab, the button Launch Karaoke Player is used to start the karaoke player in a new browser window.
Now you all set to start singing. Enjoy!
Joining Device to a Party
Often your party attendees want to use their own device to allow them to queue songs. Or the host may want to set up multiple "stations" that can be used for searching and adding songs.
This is done via the Party Code.
Navigating to http://kara-party.com allows the party code to be entered.
Click the left purple button to join the party as an attendee.
Clicking Submit then joins the device to allow queueing of songs.
FAQ
How is this different from bar karaoke?
When you are at a bar, you look through a book, choose some songs and write them on a piece of paper then give them to the karaoke host. It’s often an hour or more before you get to sing. If you want to sing sooner than that, you have to tip the karaoke host to bump you up in the line. Often you only get to sing once or twice the entire night.
What does this software do?
This eliminates the karaoke host. You look up songs in the database, choose them and add them to the song queue. The singers are randomized in a fair fashion so that one person doesn’t sing all night long while no one else gets to sing.
What this is not...
Not singing with random people you don’t know. This isn’t a public party. It’s your own private party.
How do I choose a song if there is no book? How do I know what I might want to sing?
There are several strategies you can employ when faced with the white “search for a song” blank staring at you with its flashing cursor.
At the top of the Home page, you can choose from options to:
- View New Music
- View Top Songs
Searching. Search for a common artist you know, such as Adele. Locate a song you like from her, then click on the similar songs icon to the far right. The similar songs capability finds other songs similar to Adele. You can keep using the Similar Songs or Similar Artists list at the bottom of the page to browse around various artists and songs until you find something you would like to sing.
Sing something you have sung at a previous party. When you add a song to the queue, if you saved a profile, the app remembers the songs you sing. Next party, you can view songs you’ve sang in the past and re-queue them to sing now. Click on Performers. Find yourself and click on your name. You’ll be brought to a page with your song history.
